The town of Alva inside Lee County is nestled up against the beautiful Caloosahatchee river that connects San Carlos Bay to Lake Okeechobee. Sitting between two of the most scenic areas of southern Florida, Alva keeps its residents close to the action, without the frenzy of tourists. With great access to both freshwater and the Gulf, as well as several of the nations best forest preserves, outdoor adventures becomes very popular.
One of the first settlements in southwest Florida, Alva has a rich, long history. Land purchased by one of the area’s most impacting people of the time, Captain Peter Nelson, was set aside to create the town. He chose the name Alva, after the small white flower that peppered the landscape.
With the Fort Myers area just a short drive away, there is always something to do in or around Alva. One of the most visited hotspots in the town itself is a local vineyard, crafting one of the most unique wines from Florida grapes. Other people for their entertainment take to the river for excellent fishing, and prime boating.
Alva has two elementary schools and a middle school located inside its limits. These schools spend $5,962 on each student. With 20 pupils to student ratio as well as 579 children to Librarian and 511 Students per counselor.
With a median age of 48 for its 2,666 residents and an average household size of 2.3 people, Alva is looking to blossom with families. Men mostly work in sales, followed by construction. While women are mostly administrative support followed by middle school and younger teachers.
Nearby cities of Alva include Charleston Park that is less then two miles to the east, and Lehigh Acres which is less than three miles to the south. Cape Coral is the closest city with a population of 50,000+, 22.4 miles to the southwest and St Petersburg, with its population of 200,000+ , is 98 miles to the northwest.
