History
Founded in the late 1880’s by John Stuart Williams, a former Kentucky Senator and Confederate General, and his associate Walter N. Haldeman. Haldeman, a publisher of the Louisville Courier-Journal, used his clout to praise the area’s mild climate, plentiful hunting and fishing, as well as compare the land to its name-sharing sister in Italy.
Some time in 1911, Barron G. Collier bought over a million acres in the area, along with most of Naples, and based on his promise to help build the Tamiami Trail, the 1923 stat legislature created Collier County. Tamiami Trail opened in 1926 becoming the only paved highway to link Tampa and Miami, the states two largest cities.

Naples boasts 14 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, 9 High Schools, Hodges University, Ave Maria University, and Florida Gulf University

Population
As of late 2008, Naples had a population of 21,532, with an increase of 2.7% since 2000. Women make up (53.8%) while Men are (46.2%) with a median age of 60.7 years.
The median household income is $78,370, with median house/condo value at $1,004,594.
Entertainment
The Naples area holds several golf courses, and a large performing arts community, with many theaters. Including the Philharmonic Center for the Arts, which hosts tours of Broadway musicals, celebrities and the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra.
